My go to applications/services in 2021

This is an updated version of a blog post I created around the start of this year. Since originally writing that blog post, I'm am now using some new and different applications and services.

In no particular order...

1Password

I have been using 1Password for a couple of months now. I find 1Password to be an excellent password manager for my needs. The premium plan is a bit costly compared to the previous password manager I was using, but the overall design and fuctionality of 1Password is superior in my opinion.

If you are new to password managers, I have a helpful blog post here on how you can create a strong and unique master password.

WeVPN

WeVPN in my opinion is a true underdog in the VPN industry. I like WeVPN because it has a niche user base, good speeds and fantastic streaming compatibility. In fact, WeVPN is one of the only VPN's that has compatibility right out of the box with pretty much all streaming services. And if a streaming service you want to access is blocked, you can send a request to WeVPN's support team and they will work out a method to get it unblocked, so you can keep binge watching that TV show.

Token Vault by Standard Notes

It's no secret that I am heavily invested in Standard Notes' ecosystem. I run a blog from it, I create notes within the application pretty much daily and I try to stay active within the community, whether that's messaging in their Slack group or on Twitter. So why should I keep my 2FA tokens elsewhere? It's just super convienient for me to store them there and saves me a few steps in opening a dedicated authenticator app. Furthermore, my tokens are super safe in Standard Notes' Token Vault because they are protected by strong encryption.

Standard Notes

Standard Notes has become a trusted place I can write down all of my thoughts and feelings safely. When I first downloaded Standard Notes nearly 2 years ago, I never thought I would use it as much as I do today. From noting down reminders, ideas, and running my blog from within Standard Notes, I have achieved more productivity within my work and personal life. I can see myself still using Standard Notes in 50 years time. It's become an integral part of my life.

Wikipedia

This is probably a something people who personally know me would not of expected to be on this list. I cannot deny the fact that I love Wikipedia. In fact, I've been donating to Wikipedia for the past 3 years because I believe in the vision that knowledge should be free for all, and Wikipedia stands for that. I am always wanting to find more information and gain more knowledge about anything that sparks my interest and Wikipedia is one of go to places for it. I know that people say that Wikipedia can be unreliable but I believe that opinion is no longer relevant for most topics. Information on the website has gotten more accurate in recent years and therefore I have more trust in Wikipedia.

NewPipe

NewPipe is an open-source YouTube alternative for Android. I like NewPipe because it doesn't use any of Google's framework libraries or the YouTube API itself. It also makes YouTube Premium irrelevant because NewPipe has all of the features from YouTube Premium that's locked behind a paywall, for free. I can listen to videos in background mode and download those videos through the app and not have to pay £11.99 per month to do so.

WWE Network

Many people who know me, know I love wrestling. For years I've watched WWE and I've even attended a couple of their live events including Monday Night RAW. For the price, WWE Network is really good value (especially for UK fans) because the subscription includes live pay-per-views for £9.99 per month, instead of paying the inflated box office prices. WWE Network also includes a massive catalogue of archived content and original progamming.

Spotify

Out of any product on this list, I definitely use Spotify more than the rest. I've been using this music service for years as I just love listening to music. I've tried other music services like Deezer and Tidal but they didn't quite meet my expectations like Spotify does. I honestly think Spotify knows more about my music tastes than I know myself. (Take that as a good thing or a bad thing)

Vgy.me

Vgy.me is a free image hosting website. It's super simple to use and it even supports ShareX. They unfortunately no longer support video uploading, but they are still one of the best out there.

Featured author on Listed!

I am very happy to announce that I am now a featured author on the Listed blogging platform! This actually came as a surprise for me because I went onto my email inbox to clear out the clutter and an email from Listed came through as I was deleting emails. I now have a cool little star icon next to my blog on the main homepage, so I guess that automatically makes me cool right?

All joking aside, I am very thankful to the Standard Notes team for choosing me to be a featured author on Listed. I started this blog out of boredom because I was locked away inside my own home due to the nationwide coronavirus lockdown in the UK. I am not definitely not a good writer, as I always make numerous spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and the list goes on. However, I can say that the Listed blogging platform has given me the chance to improve on my writing skills, whilst also allowing me to write about whatever I want and gain a small following in the process.

*P.S - I know I need to fix the background colour on the new entry input field box on the guestbook page :-)

How to create a strong master password

If you're thinking about signing up to a password manager service or you've just signed up to a brand new password manager, the first thing you'll need to do is to create a secure master password. As a password manager is digital wallet for all of your logins, credit cards and secure notes, your master password needs to be long and unique. Having a long and unique master password reduces your chances of your account being breached by a brute-force attack.

If you need recommendations for a password manager, I recommend any of the following:

  1. 1Password
  2. Bitwarden
  3. KeePass or KeePassXC

Now that you've chosen a password manager, the next thing to do is decide on a master password for your password manager account. Please bear in mind that;

  • A master password should be at least 20 characters long to ensure it's more secure against brute-force attacks.
  • Unique - Something you've never used before and/or hasn't been used elsewhere or it could be compromised.
  • Do not use generic words like password (P@ssw0rd) or birth dates as these can easily be cracked in a matter of seconds or minutes.

Your master password should be as random as possible. A good way to make a random yet secure master password is to use a phrase that doesn't make sense, but is easy to remember.

For example:

Felt-tip pens are made of carrot shavings

(Please do not use this specific example as your master password. As this is public, it is compromised.)

This master password is very random but it's easy to remember and very secure. Make sure you never give your master password to anyone and if you write it down, place it in a secure lockbox or safe. If you want to go an extra step further in making your master password even more secure, try coming up with a phrase that uses made up words that are not in the dictionary.

You can also use a password phrase generator tool from 1Password to help you create a long, unique master password.

Extra layer of security

Always use two factor authentication with your password manager. If your master password ever gets compromised, a bad actor would need your second factor to log into your account.

The best WWE PPV's in the pandemic era

Now that the WWE is starting live touring from next week, I thought I'd run down the best WWE pay-per-views to take place during the WWE pandemic era.

This list is my personal opinion and is in no perticular order.

#1 - Survivor Series 2020

Survivor Series 2020 celebrated the 30 year career of The Undertaker, featuring many returning legends and even Vince McMahon himself. The Undertaker delivered an emotion farewell speech followed by the famous pose with a hologram of Paul Bearer.

#2 - Hell In A Cell 2020

Hell In A Cell featured a brutal main event "I Quit" match between Jey Uso and Roman Reigns. Jimmy Uso (Jey's brother) came out to the ring to try and stop Roman Reigns from literally murdering his cousin, but this didn't stop Roman Reigns from unleashing a brutal attack on Jimmy. After the match, Roman Reigns was declared as "Head of the Table" by his father Sika and uncle Afa. This match solidified Roman Reigns as the top heel in WWE and throughout the time in the ThunderDome.

#3 - WrestleMania Backlash

When WWE first announced WrestleMania Blacklash, I honest first impressions was that the pay-per-view would just be a filler with some rematches following WrestleMania 37 and lame thrown-together matches. Descpite my initial impressions, WrestleMania Backlash actually turned out to be one of the better pay-per-views of the ThunderDome era.

We got to see two brutal triple threat matches, Dominic Mysterio and his father Rey Mysterio become the SmackDown Tag Team Champions and Cesaro finally getting a main event push, facing Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship.

#4 - Money In The Bank 2020

Money In The Bank 2020 was so fun to watch. It featured a cinematic Money In The Bank ladder match where both the male and female superstars started at the bottom of WWE Headquaters and had to battle it out with one and other until they reached the roof, where there was a ring with ladders and the Money In The Bank breif cases suspended above. The cinematic match featured many gimmicks and some familar people from WWE's past. This pay-per-view wasn't many wrestling fans favourite, but it sure did entertain me and distract me from the craziness that was happening around the world.

#5 WrestleMania 36

Yes, you read that correctly. WrestleMania 36 wasn't perfect but having being moved to the WWE Performance Center due to the rising threat of Covid-19, it was honestly a great WrestleMania.

WrestleMania 36 featured The Undetaker's final match in WWE as a cinematic "boneyard match" where he would battle AJ Styles inside a graveyard in the middle of the night. The whole idea of the cinematic match was to bury your opponent alive. Although this wasn't the match any WWE fan wanted to see as The Undertaker's last, it turned out very good and recieved high praises amongst the wrestling community. We also got to witness Drew McIntyer's rise to the top of WWE by beating Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship. It was a bittersweet moment because Drew's hard work and determination finally paid off. I just wish he could of won the WWE Championship in front of a sold out WrestleMania crowd.

There was many other great matches throughout both night 1 and 2, which also included the very strange and whacky " Firefly Fun House Match between John Cena and "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt. WrestleMania 36 will go down as the most unique WrestleMania in WWE history. Good job WWE!

WWE ThunderDome Era comes to an end

The end of the virtual era.

The WWE Thunderdome is officially coming to an end. 12 July Monday Night Raw will be the last show to be held inside the virtual crowd arena as WWE will resume touring with fans in attendance for both Raw and Smackdown from 16 July 2021. WWE had been using the ThunderDome for around 11 months as a way to allow fans to take part in the shows due to the restictions around the Covid-19 pandemic.

WWE have not had any fans in attendace at any of thier flagship shows (excluding WrestleMania 37) since March 2020 as WWE was forced to move Raw and SmackDown to a closed set at the Performance Center before the WWE ThunderDome was created. WWE's upcoming Money In The Bank 2021 pay-per-view will be hosted at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas with fans in attendance.

Money In The Bank will be at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas and will be the first pay-per-view (excluding WrestleMania 37) to have fans in attendance as the WWE ThunderDome era is coming to an end.

I'm addicted to Euro Truck Simulator 2

The reason I haven't been blogging much over the past 3 months is simply because I have an addiction... A addiction to trucking on Euro Truck Simulator 2.

I've sunk just over 125 hours into the game and I've been building up my fleet of trucks in my logistics company. Not to mention that I purchased pretty much every DLC the game has to offer so I've been driving all the way across Europe, exploring all different towns and cities the game has to offer. I've driven into coutries in northern Europe including Sweden, Denmark, Norway & Finland. I've also been exporing in eastern Europe like parts of Russia, Poland and other countries. With all of this time played in the game, I still have only around 40% of the full map explored!

With all of this driving around Europe, I needed a good reliable truck that I could drive to take me to all of these places and the truck I chose for it was the Scania S-Series.

I also managed to buy and customise my own trailer which I have attached on the back in the screenshot of the Scania.

I am going to continue to explore more of the map and haul cargo across Europe while also building up my trucking empire. I can easily see myself having over 500 hours played soon. And with the addition of the new convoy experimental beta for ETS2, it's going to be a lot more fun trucking across Europe with some of my friends.

I've also driven and own other trucks in ETS2. These are a couple screenshots of some of the trucks I own in the game:

Braun Strowman and more released by WWE

Image: WWE

In a shocking turn of events, WWE have announced Braun Strowman, Lana, Aleister Black, Ruby Riott, Murphy & Santana Garrett have been officially released from their WWE contracts today. Out of all of the unfortunate Superstars that have been released, Braun Strowman shocked me the most. He was just in a championship match at WrestleMania Backlash last month and now he's on the chopping block. How can WWE justify these releases as saving money when they've had record profits?

I sometimes question myself to why I am still a WWE fan...

Hell In A Cell 2021 Predictions

Hell In A Cell (originally set to take place in October) has moved to the month of June. Hell In A Cell 2021 could possibly be the last pay-per-view to take place within the WWE ThunderDome as WWE is set to go back to live touring this summer. To be honest, this pay-per-view line up is pretty lack luster in my opinion, and has to one of the worst this year. Wish me luck as I've got to stay up all night and watch this.

WWE's recent talent releases (RANT)

WWE have done it again. The infamous "Black Wednesday" returns exactly one year after the first with even more WWE superstars being released, despite WWE recording record earnings. It just shows you that anyone and everyone within WWE are disposable for the sake of saving or making more money. Out of all of the people who unfortunately lost their jobs on April 15, the one that shocked me the most was Samoa Joe. Seriously... how the hell can WWE come to a decision to terminate Samoa Joe's contract? Samoa Joe is one of the most talent wrestlers they have on their roster. Anything that WWE throws at him, Joe takes the situation and makes a success of it. Take his recent commentary position as an example. He was one of the best commentators despite only being one temporarily while he was out with an injury. Samoa Joe literally stood in the pouring rain at WrestleMania 37 for this company an he's repayed by being fired. Samoa Joe is literally WWE Hall of Fame material! What an absolute terrible decision to let him go. I hope AEW can give Joe a contract and let him shine and be the dominant force he was supposed to be in WWE.

Another pair of wrestlers I was surprised to see on the chopping block was Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. These two were a perfect tag team in the women's division. Literally everyone loved the IIconics in WWE and then WWE had to ruin their successful run as tag team partners by breaking them up and making them single competitors. The bad thing about this is, WWE literally had no plan for the both of them after. Why break up a successful tag team if you don't have anything for them after. It doesn't make sense! Billie Kay somehow managed to find a comedic gimmick that was actually rallying fans behind her, to then have WWE terminate her contract because Kevin Dunn "didn't get Billie Kay". I sometimes wonder if management in WWE are just plain stupid because they seem to always make stupid decisions.

I really hope that everyone who unfortunately lost their jobs on April 15 find another wrestling company that respects their talent and I hope they become very successful. Everyone on this chopping block literally could have been top stars in WWE. There was literally no reason to fire them. No one is buying budget cuts as an excuse when you've had record profits.

End.

My bucket list!

There are many things I would love to do and experience in my lifetime, this is my bucket list!

  • Go to WrestleMania
  • Go to space
  • Travel around the world
  • Sky dive out of a plane
  • Go inside a submarine and go underwater
  • Be in the book of Guinness world records
  • Go to the Grand Canyon
  • Stay in an ice hotel
  • Travel to North Korea for a tour
  • Experience zero gravity
  • Watch a meteor shower
  • Fly first class
  • Fly in a helicopter
  • Make a time capsule
